Cemeteries and Other Stuff

Lafayette Cemetery No 2.

Lafayette Cemetery No 2.

Lots of holidays around this place all in one long weekend. First, Halloween. Then, Al Saints Day and finally, All Souls Day. I guess today is a holiday too. Of sorts. It’s election day.

I was a little busy on All Saints Day when I should have taken these pictures. I suppose that it really doesn’t matter in New Orleans. As obsessed with death as we are around here, we really don’t have big events like the ones in Mexico. No The Day of The Dead celebrations.

Unfortunately, once again I was misled by the city website. It says this cemetery — Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 — opens at 8am. Wrong. It’s 7am. The light would have even been better at 7am than it was when I arrived at 8:05am. I’ll go back. It’s not a long commute. Three blocks from the house. The dogs know the gates well.

The pictures. Ahhhh…… they’ve all been tinkered with. I think that this place was too orderly to be my vision of a cemetery so I made it disorderly.
