So green. So very green.
It’s spring down here in the swamp. Most everything is blooming. It’s an awakening after a long winter’s night. Well, something like that. Our winter was mild. There were about three days of cold. The temperature did not drop below freezing. I have no idea what that means for our normally hot, wet and humid summers. I suppose that we’ll see,
This wonderful green forest is a sign to me.
It’s a symbol of what’s to come. So many people are talking about never returning to our past version of normal that we are building up a full head of steam. We know the system wasn’t working. Most of it is broken.
But, it doesn’t have to be. We are starting to learn what we are capable of doing. Since we have a pretty good idea that mass gatherings of any type won’t resume to maybe October 2021, we have time to plan. But, time is short. It’s always short.
I suspect some sports like baseball may try to play this year in some sort of shortened season and in weird division alignments. However, fans will have to watch on their favorite screen.
I have no idea what happens with New Orleans favorite team, The Saints.
The mayor wants to close down all mass gatherings at least until the end of the year. She hasn’t issued a formal decree, but she is talking to the major players. French Quarter Feast, The Jazz and Heritage Festival, Voodoo Fest, Essence Fest, and ton of smaller festivals could be dark this year. NFL football might not be played in New Orleans. NCAA football might not be played.
You know that’s going to hurt everybody.
Even with the pain that will cause, I agree with her. That’s pretty much how tha Spanish flu returned, deadlier than ever.
What do we want to do?
First things first. We must vote the president and as many of his supporters out of office. They are killing his country out of sheer greed. This isn’t a political blog so that’s all I’m going to say.
I’m going to limit myself to two pressing needs.
Nationalism and isolation isn’t good for anybody. The United States must rebuild our relationships with everybody.
Infrastucture. What a pressing need. It must be rebuilt, restored and changed locally, regionally and nationally. New ideas must arise. This drives just about everything. You want to go shopping, you need a road. Take your chldren to school, you need a road. Take a road trip for business or pleasure, you need a highway. Want to travel long distances, you need better mass transportation. And, so on.
It’s your turn now. What do you think are our most pressing needs? Please use your imagination. The ideas you come up with could improve the world.
No. I didn’t forget education. That’s for you to change.
Stay safe. Look after others. Check on the elderly. Join a volunteer program. Keep your distance. Wear your mask. Wash your hands. Enjoy every piece of fried chicken.
