Bye & Bye

Smile though your heart is breaking.

I needed this picture.

The news is grim, getting grimmer. The virus is growing exponentially in New Orleans. I live in a country in desperate need of a leader. Many people, most not from NOLA, are trying to blame the mayor for not cancelling Mardi Gras. None of us knew. We certainly had no direction from the president or even FEMA. I’m not the mayor’s biggest supporter. I stand with her this time.

I followed my own advice. One day at a time. Doing what I do. Making art.

I started tinkering with the base picture which is a very tightly composed and cropped picture of a rose. You’ll see other versions of it eventually. I added the little tiny flowers on the lawn. You’ve already seen those. I started  working on the color, brightness and glow.

I started smiling. I started laughing. This picture is so whimsical that it brought out my hidden happiness. I hope it works for you.

Stay Safe. Care for others. Enjoy every sandwich.

  1. Our president had three months to take action before this horrible virus hit our country and he didn’t do anything. Three months… and no action, only false optimistic remarks. That is so unforgivable.
Please, stay safe and God bless you and your family!

  2. A day at a time has to be everybody’s mantra right now, because as things have fallen by the wayside and false hopes are given by the higher ups, and more knowledgeable people are trying to fill the gaps, there’s just too much that can’t get done right now and other things we can do.

It requires a day at a time, because it could easily stretch weeks or several months, whatever this is that’s going on. I’m hoping for the best for all of us–virtual hugs–and keep creating. I’m stuck with a recurring annoying ailment trying not to fall asleep, so documentaries and needlepointing tissue box covers for my workplace are all I can think to do right now.

Have fun. Amazing how this beautiful weather is like a mockery right now when so many others are hurting, scared, and/or dying.

  3. Your first line inspired me to dig out Judy Garland from my iTunes. I had forgotten that Charlie Chaplin wrote that song. So beautiful. I’m listening right now: “You’ll find that life is still worthwhile, if you’ll just smile.”

Another line from Smile, “Light up your face with gladness,” is how your image makes me feel. I love almost every photo you post, but this one is my new fave. Maybe because it’s just the tonic I need today here at Glover Gardens.

Now Judy is singing “Get Happy”. It’s helping, just like you’re pic.

Stay safe and keep on sharing.

    1. Sharing is going to come to an end in May. That’s when my bill for WordPress is due. It’s time to actually to do something with my website. It has a blog component. I’ll take everybody that I talk to with me. I have to do a work around to send emails. I probably won’t post daily. I think that it’ll be all art. The New Orleans Culture Project is done. We’ve mostly just been playing nojo’s new music which is released 8 May, unless we hold it because we can’t support it. Who knows when we can. Stay Safe and enjoy every sandwich.
