Summer. Still. Forever.

Summer in Southeast Louisiana

Summer in Southeast Louisiana

Yes. It’s still summer down here is swampland. This is the time of year when I advise people to “come on down.” The weather is usually pleasant with temperatures in the mid-70s and low humidity. Not this year. The current temperature is 92 degrees. The humidity is about 85% Summer is never leaving.

Oh, how I can I miss you if you won’t go away?

I have a second line parade to photograph in about an hour. With the heat of the endless summer, I am about as motivated to do that as I am to go to the dentist and have my teeth pulled. No, they don’t need pulling. Luckily.

The picture. An ode to late summer. An ode to thinking about moving north… forever.

Happy Sunday, y’all. I hope it feels like fall wherever you are, unless you are on the other side of the hemisphere. I hope it feels like spring to you.

  1. Well, Panama City is supposed to be that way this time of year. We are not. I think, in the words of a friend of mine, “too hip, time to go…”

  2. There were two days on which we could turn off our air con and open the windows — the first time since Jazzfest — about two weeks ago. Since then, the temps have gone way up and the air has turned moist again.Supposedly, with this newly arriving storm, the weather should change and we’ll be back to our version of fall. Oddly , last winter was very cold for a long time. Of course, our cold is not northern cold. But, for us…. I’m not really from here — that being defined by birth and family — but my friends who are, said that it was the coldest winter they could remember.
